Atmospheric Series
Let's be honest. Many people don’t relate to abstraction. They have a hard time wrapping their heads around it, and they don’t see its appeal. While I do understand where they're coming from, I hope my work shows enough history, structure, expression, and relation to form to break these concepts. I was once more of a portrait painter, but over time I learned what I loved about painting was working larger, playing with mark making, color, negative space, the small details we look over, and creating a common atmosphere. I enjoy the instrument of paint, brush, tool, and general mark-making. My work becomes about the visual atmosphere, the balance, and creating a rhythm and movement throughout a work. These compositions are my concerts and have some fantastic riffs. They are full of heartbreak, story, growth, hope, doubt, joy, loss, and failure. I am exploring the movement we live in, at times celebrating the good and the bad. These are visual expressions, whether you call me a composer, alchemist, painter, maker, creator, storyteller, or maniac. I hope you step into the image before you, spend some time reading it, and travel through the visual rhythm of the painting itself.
